Last month during my quiet time, a picture popped into my head.

I saw a watercolor picture, God was in the center, and I could faintly see the blue sky and the green grass.  All around Him people were running up to Him, smiling, bringing gifts and laughing.  Some were pulling ribbons to and fro, and the whole scene was joyful, exuberant and innocent.

It reminded me that He made us for worship.

He created us to serve Him, love Him, seek Him, know Him and delight in His goodness.

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 16:11
Did you know that whether you intend to or not, you are worshipping something?

It may be your career, your children, your spouse, your to-do list.  You don’t do it intentionally.  But when you wake up in the morning you think about it, maybe even to the point of obsession.

Even as you fall asleep and all throughout the day, it has your attention.

You make sacrifices for it and give it your everything.

That’s worship.

God placed that extravagant respect in you, but for His glory alone.

3 reasons why you were made to worship.

1. Because nothing else will satisfy.

It’s the reason we fall head over heels in love with Jesus just by getting to know Him.  Besides your spouse, who else can you say that about?  But unlike your spouse, He’ll never let you down, leave you or forsake you.

And you’ll love Him not for what He can do for you, but for who He is.  Jesus satisfies something deep inside of us that nothing else can.  It’s why these temporary pleasures in life are just that…temporary.  In Him you’ll discover soul satisfaction and pleasure that this world cannot offer; pleasures that will never end.  It’s Jesus.

Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’

John 4:14
When you give your life to Jesus and follow Him, here’s what happens:

(An excerpt from Restful Summer Edition 2021):

So you begin to learn about this person who set you free. This person who gave you this brand new life. Jesus.

And as you learn about Him, you believe what He tells you and get excited as you learn more and more.

You watch Him take away your addictions and sadness. You watch Him restore your brokenness. Gratitude for life begins to consume you.

You watch Him carry you through various trials and tribulations.

And then a funny thing happens. Because you trust Him and know Him better, you begin to see the wisdom in the trials and tests you face.

He develops your character and you find yourself thanking Him for the storms….

You trust Him because you believe Him. And that trust produces a peace like you’ve never experienced before.

This peace testifies that no matter what comes your way, with Jesus, overwhelming victory is yours. Pretty soon, you notice your love for life is restored and people become beautiful again. Then you begin to fall in love with Him. It just happens.

And He starts to trust you enough to reveal more of Himself to you, then He consumes your thoughts. You’re head over heels.

2. You discover your purpose for life when you look at Him.

We were created to pursue the kingdom of God; to seek God, love Him and serve Him. He designed us to place our treasure in Him alone; to get up in the morning and look for Him, bringing Him gifts and letting Him fill us with His joy.  It’s then and only then that we’ll receive the answers to those big prayers we’ve been praying.

It’s then and only then we’ll receive that joy, peace and rest that we’ve been looking for.

But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33

The animals of the field don’t worry, they just do what God designed them to do.

Why does God want to provide everything you need?  Why does he want to be your one true desire?
Because He loves you.

In my life, I’ve found that the peace and joy I was searching for, I obtained only through surrender. It’s when I surrendered my worries, cares and concerns to Him; not only those, but my own grand plans for my little life.

Just a few months ago I laid down my dream to design websites to focus solely on this blog, and there was an internal sigh of relief.  I had been trying to make things happen in my own strength, but when I was ready, and only the Lord knew when, He brought my heart back to Him.   There was a small battle, of course, but when I let go, as He waited patiently for me, His peace came.  And so did fresh ideas for this blog and new revelations. God is good.

The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22

Raise your hand if you’d like blessings that don’t come with sorrows!

3. Because the Spirit testifies to this truth.

When I sit under the tangible presence of God and feel the physical weight of His glory, or when I become overwhelmed with His peace, everything else fades away.  The day to day worries of this life, a life that is fading fast, begin to pale under the presence of God.  I get to a place where I don’t want to leave.  I don’t want to go back because when He comes, He’s all I ever want or need.

And when I have to get back up and go on with my day, everything else becomes commonplace.  I call it the “mundane.”  When you’re in His presence, there’s truly no place else you’d rather be.

I heard someone say:

Worshipping the Lord, is the time you’re getting the least done, but it’s the time He’s getting the most done.  Sitting at the feet of Jesus.

And can I tell you something?  He loves it.  He loves being with you.  It’s often when I get ready to get up, that I feel Him even more, as if the Holy Spirit is saying, “stay a little longer.”  Gosh, He loves you.  He loves being with you.

It’s like another realm.

Do you know what I’m talking about?  You’re at home in the presence of God.  You just know you were made for this space, this moment in time.  It’s difficult to articulate, but oh so true.

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.

John 14:21

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

Psalm 65:4

God planned you for His pleasure. Just to love you.  He is love.  If God wasn’t a God of love, you would not be able to love anybody else because you were made in God’s image.  The Bible calls this worship, and it’s the first purpose God has for your life.

Rick Warren
Now we are surrounded by so many things that cry out for our attention on this earth.

Most are good and created for our enjoyment, but were never intended for us to worship, neglecting the One whose very hands created it.

God desires you to see the beauty beyond that thing.  To look at it and see His great beauty. His great love for you. Because He loved you enough to give you that thing to care for.

So enjoy God’s wonderful gifts, but only worship Him.

You shall have no other gods before me.  You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:3-6

How to worship God daily.

Just look at Him.  I don’t have a to-do list for you, sorry.  I won’t tell you to meditate on a certain scripture, pray for an hour, then sit in silence and wait, etc.

No. Just spend meaningful, quality time with God.

He’s in the quiet.  Can you get away?  You should. Get to a quiet place and let the Holy Spirit lead you into His presence. Just place your focus and attention on Him, as best you know how.  Shut the door, put on worship music or sit quietly in silence, and stay there until all your rampant thoughts cease, and it gets quiet in your head.

There will always be things desiring our worship in this life.

Our family, our car, our house, our career; things we make sacrifices for.

We look and see the beauty in our children, the sun, moon, stars and the sky. Or we marvel at the intelligence of a person, or the kindness of a stranger. We put them on a pedestal and give them glory.

Remember that it’s God who gave them that intelligence.  It’s God who is kindness personified, who created all that we see.  He set us on this beautiful, awe inspiring planet that testifies to His glory, goodness, mystery and love.

All it takes to turn you from an apathetic son or daughter to someone ready to run into the fire for Jesus, is just spending a little time with God everyday.  You’ll see.

So where does love come from? It comes from being stunned by being loved by God, right?

This love comes from being overwhelmed by the person of Jesus dying on our behalf and rising again, though we have no merit at all in ourselves. When that grips you, then you will taste what it is to treasure Jesus, delight in Jesus, and be satisfied in Jesus.
