Last month, I had the pleasure of chatting with Grace from the Hallelujah Podcast about our identity in Christ.
It was a heart-to-heart conversation where I drew from my own experiences to answer some of the questions she asked. Today, I want to share with you the highlights of our discussion and encourage you to discover your identity in Christ, especially as you embark on the journey of starting and growing your business.
Why is Your Identity in Christ Important?
You see, life often pushes us to make decisions based on either fear or faith. If we don’t understand who we are in Christ, we may find ourselves building our identity around how others perceive us. Every significant business and life decision then becomes rooted in the fear of man rather than the fear of God.
For the longest time, I didn’t even realize I had an identity in Christ. Growing up in a small town in West Texas, surrounded mostly by people of a different color, I absorbed cues about my identity from the outside world, not from God, despite being a churchgoer. It was as if I saw myself as “a fly in a bowlful of milk.”
What Are The Keys to Discovering Your Identity in Christ?
1. Seek the Lord.
Begin your journey by asking the Lord to help you discover and accept who you are in Him. It’s not always an easy path, but it is a transformative journey. My own shaky identity began to crumble when I stopped relying on praise from others. In those quiet moments, lay your head on God’s chest, cry in His presence, and know that it’s okay. I’ve learned that tears are healing and a release of hidden pain to Jesus.
2. Embrace Truth Over Lies.
We’ve often bought into the lies that define our worth. The antidote? Immerse yourself in God’s Word. As you read, speak, and meditate on Scripture, you’ll witness a transformation within. The truth embedded in God’s Word has the power to dismantle the strongholds of falsehood we’ve unknowingly accepted.
3. Lean on God’s Grace and Truth.
In moments of solitude, seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance to unveil your true identity. Feelings of unworthiness can be overwhelming, but remember, God sees you as worthy. Before the foundation of the earth, He dreamed of you and delights in your existence. Allow His gentleness to reveal the authentic, beautiful you.
A Final Word of Encouragement.
Dear sister, you are worthy. The very reason Jesus went to the cross is that He deemed you worthy. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, a cherished creation in God’s eyes. Before the world began, you were the dream in His heart, and He loves and adores you.
As you embark on your entrepreneurial journey, carry these truths with you. Let your identity in Christ be the bedrock upon which you build your business. Remember, you are not alone—God is with you every step of the way.
